Growing up on a farm in Plains, TX, I always had a passion for numbers, problem-solving, and helping others find solutions. I still vividly remember my first school project on the time value of money, where I first wrapped my head around this concept—a small but significant moment that solidified my love for finance. After earning my Master’s in Agribusiness from Texas Tech, I embarked on a 20-year career in commercial banking. During those years, I honed my financial expertise, building strong relationships with clients and learning the intricacies of the lending industry. My career took me to several banks around Lubbock, TX, where I worked closely with individuals and businesses to meet their financial needs.

Alongside my professional journey, my personal life has been my anchor, due solely to my wife. I’ve been married to my incredible wife, Baylie, for 15 years, and together we’re raising four wonderful kids. Their love and support have been my greatest motivation as I’ve pursued my career and tackled new challenges.

At some point, I was introduced to the wonderful world of purchasing seller-financed notes/mortgages. This bright new world opened up for me—full of challenges, problem-solving, and adventure. After immersing myself in extensive education, I began purchasing my first few notes. Yet, something was missing. The sellers I interacted with faced extreme challenges, particularly those involving complex financial transactions like selling a note. That realization planted a seed that would eventually lead me on a new path.
Over time, I noticed something troubling. Many sellers—whether they were businesses or individuals—struggled to fully understand their financial options. They were often overwhelmed by the complexities of their deals, and the lack of clear communication left them feeling lost. Sadly, some sellers reached a point of desperation before making the decision to sell.
This sparked a calling in me to provide clarity and simplicity in a confusing process. I often describe it as sellers holding five pieces of a 50-piece puzzle and trying to make the right decision for their families. The confusion frequently led to emotional responses, even anger: – What is my note worth? – Why isn’t the offer at least the principal balance? – Why isn’t the offer based on the real estate market value? – What happens to my borrowers? – Why does it feel like the process is so complicated? – Your offer is too low!!
Ten years ago, I made the leap into the note industry. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was one I felt compelled to make. My mission became clear: to bring honesty, transparency, and straightforward communication to note sellers.
I remember a conversation with one of my mentors who told me, ‘The greatest rewards come when you step out of your comfort zone.’ That wisdom stayed with me as I wondered if my expertise would translate or if I could build trust in a new field.

Throughout my career, I was fortunate to learn from mentors who emphasized the importance of integrity and clear communication. These principles became the foundation of my work. My banking background gave me a strong understanding of finance, but it was the lessons from these mentors that shaped my approach to helping note sellers.
When I first stepped into the note industry, I quickly realized how complex and overwhelming the process could be for sellers. Contracts were filled with jargon, most sellers had never sold a note before, and the stakes were high. This solidified my purpose: to be the guide sellers could trust. My first few deals were learning experiences, but they confirmed that my commitment to honesty, excellence, and clarity was exactly what sellers needed.
Navigating a new industry came with its share of challenges. I had to earn trust, simplify complex ideas, and find ways to make the process more accessible to my clients. Each challenge taught me something new about the industry and about myself. With every obstacle, I refined my approach, ensuring my clients always received clear, concise, and honest presentations tailored to their needs.
It became clear to me that expertise wasn’t enough. Sellers needed more than just a knowledgeable partner; they needed someone who could break down the process into manageable steps and provide guidance they could rely on. That realization transformed my work. I committed to making clarity and transparency the core of my business, ensuring every seller felt confident and informed.
One of the most rewarding moments of my journey came when I worked with a seller overwhelmed by borrower conflicts and errors in their loan documentation. They felt abandoned by other note buyers, who either didn’t have the patience or the expertise to resolve the issues. By breaking the process into manageable steps and addressing each concern, we achieved a deal that exceeded their expectations. Seeing their relief and gratitude reaffirmed why I do this work.
Today, I am proud to have helped countless sellers navigate their journeys with confidence. Whether it’s simplifying complex deals or building trust through transparency, my greatest reward is knowing I’ve made a positive difference in their lives. It is possible to create a win-win scenario for everyone involved – The seller/Noteholder, borrower, and buyer.
My journey is far from over. I’m constantly exploring new ways to serve my clients better—whether by leveraging technology to simplify transactions or staying ahead of industry trends. Each new challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow, always with the goal of improving the experience for every seller.
